Head of school, the visitor economy

Hobart
Searson Buck Group
Posted: 11 May
Offer description

TasTAFE is entering a critical phase of renewal. As Tasmania’s largest provider of vocational education and training, we’re committed to delivering real-world learning that directly supports the state’s economic growth. At the heart of this transformation is a newly created role: Head of School - Visitor Economy.
This is a senior leadership role with influence, responsibility, and a clear mandate for change. The successful candidate will lead and inspire a team of approximately 45 staff across key campuses, overseeing delivery in areas that include tourism, hospitality, events, and sport. The role goes beyond operational oversight. It requires someone who can shape curriculum direction, ensure quality outcomes, and develop strong, trusted relationships with industry.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director - Education Operations, the Head of School will be a key part of the senior leadership team. You’ll be tasked with raising the profile and performance of the visitor economy school, making sure training is contemporary, industry-connected, and reflective of TasTAFE’s broader purpose. The role also includes responsibility for the organisation’s licensed training restaurants and plays a visible part in public, industry, and government-facing activities.
This role demands a leader who is strategic but not abstract, politically aware but grounded, and comfortable working across diverse stakeholder groups. Experience in vocational education or the visitor economy sectors is highly desirable, but what matters most is your capacity to build trust, lead through complexity, and make a measurable difference.
If you understand the link between workforce readiness and long-term economic strength — and you’re ready to deliver practical, lasting change — this is an opportunity to help shape how Tasmania trains and retains its future leaders.
Please contact Sharon Miller on 0408 748 573 or Donald Coventry on 0426 240 227 for a confidential discussion and a recruitment information pack. All applications must provide a resume and cover letter highlighting how your experience aligns with the role and TasTAFE as an organisation.
Applications close Monday 19th May at 9am. #J-18808-Ljbffr
