**Gain Invaluable Experience: Trainee Clinical Coder Contract with SALHN**
As a Trainee Clinical Coder with SALHN, you will receive comprehensive training and mentorship from experienced Clinical Coders, equipping you with the skills to abstract information from electronic medical records, exercise sound judgment, and tackle increasingly complex cases with efficiency and precision. You will play a pivotal role in accurately translating medical and procedural terminology into the ICD-10-AM/ACHI coding system, which is essential for statistical analysis, hospital planning, research, and auditing patient care quality. Your responsibilities will involve assigning AR-DRG codes, which directly impact the funding allocation for inpatient services through the Casemix/ABF model.
**About the role**:
Reporting to the SALHN Coding Auditor/Educator, some of your duties as the Trainee Clinical Coder may involve:
- Using knowledge learned from Clinical Coding courses to translate the narrative descriptions of diagnoses and procedures from the EMR into valid, accurate and complete ICD-10-AM/ACHI codes in accordance with National and State standards.
- Coding using the stand-alone 3M Codefinder within Sunrise.
- Providing administrative support to the Clinical Coding Operations Manager when required.
**Please note**: This role is full-time and onsite only.
**About you**:
- Successful completion of a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding course or equivalent, together with demonstrated competency in ICD-10-AM (current edition) coding.
OR
- Near completion of a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding course if sponsored by Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) or SA Health, Health Information Governance Unit (HIGU).
- Knowledge of the current edition of the ICD-10-AM & ACHI Classification Systems and the National and South Australian Coding Standards.
- Satisfactory knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of the day-to-day operation of a hospital.
- Ability to integrate, compute and interpret information required to produce coded clinical data.
- Keyboard skills.
