What's the role about?
The role focuses on providing pricing and underwriting support to drive the profitable growth of the company's auto business in Australia and New Zealand, with support to other APAC territories as needed.
This position recommends and implements techniques to support Assurant's operations in achieving revenue and profitability targets. The Actuarial Analyst demonstrates understanding of project directions, manages time effectively, and engages in professional development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Perform rate reviews, rate modeling (e.g., vehicle model rating), and portfolio monitoring for assigned territories/lines of business.
2. Collaborate with local businesses to acquire and grow motor insurance business profitably by engaging with underwriting agencies and reinsurers.
3. Maintain daily liaison with external stakeholders such as underwriting agencies, brokers, reinsurers, and internal teams like Business Development, Risk, Claims, Finance, and Operations.
4. Manage responses to internal, external, or ad hoc requests related to the business unit/product line, guided by the manager.
5. Update and analyze existing memorandum templates.
6. Locate and reconcile data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and addressing anomalies.
7. Gather information from internal departments to complete reports and analyses, developing process flows and incorporating feedback.
8. Assist with data collection and responses to inquiries from insurance departments, auditors, and internal areas regarding business processes and improvements.
9. Identify system and data inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
10. Translate financial projections into business metrics, monitoring productivity, processes, and profitability.
11. Participate in cross-training and knowledge sharing within the team.
12. Manage personal development and pursue actuarial exams toward professional designation.
Candidate Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
* 3-8 years of experience, preferably with motor insurance pricing expertise.
* Actively pursuing or holding an actuarial designation (e.g., Associate of the Australian Actuarial Institute or equivalent).
* 3-6 years of progressive actuarial responsibilities.
* Strong understanding of actuarial concepts, insurance products, and industry knowledge.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications and advanced skills in data platforms like SAS, SQL, R, Python, etc.
