The role of a Learning Assistant plays a vital part in the support of students with additional needs. They enhance the student learning experience and help students reach their full potential. Working under the direction of a teacher, Learning Assistants predominantly work with students who have neurological and learning disorders, physical disabilities, and behavioural disorders.

They support students by implementing a range of teaching and learning strategies such as one-on-one or small group instruction, co-operative learning, scaffolding, modelling and worked examples. This may also include assigning specific students that require one-to-one support in various areas.

Learning Assistants collaborate with class teachers to reinforce classroom teaching. They assist students with organisation, social competence, accessing activities and appropriate behaviour. Additionally, they undertake supervision of the class to enable the teacher to focus on supporting students with additional needs.

In this role, you will be working with students from all year levels both inside and outside the classroom environment. You will be required to develop strong relationships with your colleagues and the students you work with, ensuring a positive and supportive learning environment.
