A major bank in Sydney seeking a Principal Database Automation Architect/ Engineer within the Data Platform Service Practice Team.
You will be a strategic leader responsible for shaping and driving the DevOps and SQL Infrastructure vision across multiple platforms and products. This role demands deep technical expertise, architectural foresight, and the ability to influence and mentor senior engineers while collaborating across business and technology domains.
Responsibilities
* Own the automation strategy for SQL and data platforms across hybrid environments
* Designing automation at scale using Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD pipelines
* Build and operating enterprise SQL platforms (MSSQL and/or PostgreSQL) with HA/DR and performance in mind
* Designing reusable platform patterns that enable safe self-service for engineering teams
* Leading and optimising DevOps toolchains (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Artifactory)
* Providing architectural leadership, mentoring senior engineers, and influencing standards
* Deep knowledge of SQL/PostgreSQL platforms, including performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
* Strong Terraform, Ansible, ARM templates, and scripting languages
* Containerisation: Expertise in OpenShift or Kubernetes platforms, including deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management.
* Demonstrated success in large-scale enterprise environments with complex dependencies and regulatory requirements.
* Security & Compliance: Strong understanding of RBAC, Privilege Access Management, encryption, and secure provisioning practices.
Qualifications
* Experience designing and operating enterprise SQL platforms with high availability and disaster recovery
* Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, ARM templates, and scripting languages
* Experience with OpenShift or Kubernetes platforms and container lifecycle management
* Strong knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL performance tuning and governance
* Familiarity with DevOps toolchains (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Artifactory)
* Understanding of security practices including RBAC, privileged access management, encryption, and secure provisioning
* Ability to mentor engineers and influence architectural standards
