The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Health is seeking a Consultant Clinical Geneticist. This position is based at the Royal Hobart Hospital, with regular travel to the North and North West of the state; overnight travel and some out-of-hours work will be required, and interstate travel may also be expected.


Overview

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The Tasmanian Clinical Genetics Service (TCGS) is a multidisciplinary team that delivers a statewide service based at the RHH, managing general and cancer genetics referrals for paediatric, adult and prenatal cases. Clinicians at TCGS see people across Tasmania by telehealth and in person in Hobart and in outreach clinics to the North and North West of the State.


Role

* Provide consultant services in Clinical Genetics statewide.
* Contribute to strategic planning and policy development for genetic services in Tasmania.
* Contribute to clinical research in the field of clinical genetics.


Duties

* Conduct regular genetics clinics in the South, North and North West of Tasmania, consulting across the full spectrum of genetic conditions.
* Provide specialist advice in clinical genetics and genomics to medical practitioners and other health professionals as needed.
* Supervise the work of medical and allied health staff of the Tasmanian Clinical Genetics Service.
* Provide advice to the Tasmanian Health Service on delivery of genetic services and incorporation of genomic medicine into mainstream healthcare services.
* Facilitate, conduct and publish research related to clinical genetics at both the Tasmanian Health Service and the University of Tasmania; participate in teaching activities of the THS and the University of Tasmania.
* Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.
* Accept other duties within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Salary

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award – remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements, negotiated with the successful applicant based on clinical experience and seniority. Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.

* Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range ($300,216 – $310,389) subject to satisfying the criteria for Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
* Allowances (motor vehicle, continuing professional development, relocation, on‑call) calculated on the salaried incremental point.
* Possible additional payment of 35 % of Base Salary plus on‑call through the Private Patient Scheme Committee, if admitted to the scheme.


Other Benefits

* Salary package and benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment per FBT year; other benefits per eligibility.

Appointment Details

Permanent part‑time day work (with on‑call), 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

Essential Requirements

* Holds specialist registration; or
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate on the specialist pathway; or
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate with a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.


Pre‑employment Checks

* Conviction checks: crimes of violence; sex‑related offences; serious drug offences; crimes involving dishonesty.
* Identification check.
* Disciplinary action in previous employment check.


Desirable Requirements

* Post‑graduate degree or other related additional qualification.
* Current driver’s licence.
