Job Overview
The Royal Hobart Hospital is a tertiary hospital in southern Tasmania serving a population of 300,000. The Aged Care Department offers advanced trainee positions of 12‐24 months, suitable for core training in Geriatrics or non‐core training in General Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Palliative Care or Emergency Medicine. The department has 112 inpatient beds, including 60 acute, 42 sub‐acute (GEM), and 10 beds for patients with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, plus a GEM at Home service.
Responsibilities
* Day‐to‐day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the hospital.
* Provide after‐hours emergency cover as required.
Qualifications
* Having passed the written and practical RACP exams or equivalent for the relevant College (Highly Desirable).
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
Other Details
* Salary: $138,978 – $194,675 per annum (in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025).
* Classification: Medical Practitioner Level 5‐11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar).
* Award: Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
* Period of Employment: Fixed term, full time day work, 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028 (24 months negotiable). Part‐time hours may be considered.
* Location: Royal Hobart Hospital, Peacock 1, Peacock 3, Older Persons Unit.
