We are seeking an experienced Interaction Designer (UX/UI Designer) to support the design and delivery of user‐centric, data‐driven digital solutions.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Interaction Designer will apply human‐centred design (HCD) practices to research, design, prototype and validate user interfaces. The role focuses on ensuring that systems are usable, accessible, and aligned with business and operational needs, while meeting Whole‐of‐Government (WoG) digital standards.
Key Responsibilities
User Research & Discovery
* Plan, conduct and facilitate user research activities, including interviews, observation, co‐design workshops, and usability testing
* Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand user needs, behaviours and pain points
Research Synthesis & Insights
* Translate research findings into actionable insights through artefacts such as personas, empathy maps, and insight reports
* Present findings to delivery teams and executive stakeholders
Journey Mapping & Experience Design
* Develop current‐state and future‐state journey maps, process flows and data flows
* Visualise end‐to‐end user experiences across systems and services
Design & Prototyping
* Create wireframes, interaction flows, and prototypes to communicate design solutions
* Conduct iterative design cycles, validating concepts with users before development
Collaboration & Delivery Support
* Work closely with business analysts, SMEs, architects and delivery teams to translate user needs into requirements, epics and features
* Ensure alignment between user experience design, business processes and technical solutions
Usability & Accessibility Evaluation
* Conduct usability testing and accessibility assessments
* Identify design issues and recommend improvements through iterative design approaches
Standards & Governance
* Ensure all design outputs comply with Whole‐of‐Government Digital Experience Policy, including:
* Digital Service Standard
* Digital Inclusion Standard
* Digital Access Standard
* Digital Performance Standard
* Maintain design artefacts, including design histories, patterns and interaction models
Outcomes & Performance Measurement
* Contribute to identifying measurable business and user outcomes
* Link design decisions to benefits realisation and performance indicators
* Adhere to data classification, privacy and security requirements in all research and design activities
Requirements
* Demonstrated ability to conduct user research and facilitate workshops with diverse internal and external user groups, synthesising and documenting insights to inform design decisions.
* Demonstrated ability to analyse and translate user requirements into functional, intuitive web design prototypes and wireframes, aligned with user‐centred design practices and compliant with WoG Digital Experience Policy and the Digital Transformation Agency's Data and Digital Strategy.
* Demonstrated ability to evaluate user experience, usability, and accessibility requirements, and develop targeted action plans to address design issues through co‐design and iterative prototyping.
* Demonstrated ability to design tailored data modelling, visualisation, and analytical interfaces to meet the needs of diverse audiences, including highly technical subject matter experts and data analysts.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document end‐to‐end user experiences through user personas, journey maps, data process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, and design requirements.
Additional Experience
* Experience working with Hybrid methodologies, DevOps and Microsoft development platforms.
* Relevant tertiary qualification and industry experience.
