The Roofing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely estimates and quotations for residential, commercial, industrial, mining and asbestos roofing projects across Queensland. This role ensures all tenders meet MRA Roofing & Construction's quality, safety, and compliance standards while supporting strong client relationships and smooth project delivery.
The ideal candidate has strong industry knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced construction environment.
What you'll be doing
ESTIMATING & TENDERING
* Prepare detailed cost estimates and Tenders for metal roofing, re-roofing, maintenance, and cladding projects.
* Interpret architectural drawings, engineering specifications, scopes of work, insurance scopes, and site photographs.
* Conduct site inspections (as required) to assess measurements, roof pitch, condition, access, materials, and potential risks.
* Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor pricing for materials and labour.
* Ensure all estimates comply with Queensland/State Specific construction codes, WHS regulations, and company standards.
* Knowledge of the Australian Building codes and regulations, QBCC / NCC, Trade compliance and OH&S
PROJECT & CLIENT SUPPORT
* Liaise with clients, builders, project managers, and suppliers to clarify scope, pricing, and inclusions/exclusions.
* Track and follow up submitted tenders to maximise successful conversion.
* Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers to ensure competitive and consistent pricing.
ADMINISTRATION & REPORTING
* Use estimating software, CRM systems, and internal templates to maintain accurate job records.
* Update databases with current labour rates, supplier pricing, and material availability.
* Report on tender performance, win/loss rates, and pipeline forecasts.
* Assist in reviewing and improving internal estimating processes.
What we're looking for
ESSENTIAL
* Permanent Australian Resident or Citizen
* Minimum 10 years of experience as a roofing or construction estimator, with a proven track record of delivering accurate and competitive estimates
* Strong understanding of roofing materials (metal, tile, cladding), installation methods, and construction processes & Australian building standards
* Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings, specifications, and other technical documents
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate project risks
* Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
* Own reliable transportation
DESIRABLE
* Trade background in roofing and construction.
* Experience working on large industrial and commercial projects.
* Knowledge of Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) requirements.
* Familiarity with workplace health and safety regulations (WHS).

Working Conditions
* Standard working hours Monday to Friday 07:00am to 16:00pm, with flexibility required based on project needs.
* Reports To: Project Coordinator
* Works With: Project Coordinator, site supervisors, admin team, suppliers, and clients.
* Primarily office based with occasional site visits with SEQ; occasional regional work as per Company Policy.
* PPE and company allowances provided as per company policy.
