Overview

Location and Working Arrangements
* Location: Western Australia
* Working arrangements: Hybrid – approximately 3 days onsite at the AEC office and 2 days from home (subject to Hiring Manager discretion)
* Length of contract: Until 30 June (with potential 12‑month extension)
* Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1
* Rates: $100 – $120 per hour (inc. super)
About the Role
The role is within the Australia Electoral Commission's Chief Information Officer Division (CIOD), part of the Enterprise Transformation Group. The CIOD delivers robust ICT functions and facilitates an ambitious transformation agenda, supporting programs such as the Modern Workplace Program and the Election Systems Modernisation Program.
Responsibilities
* Participate in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to develop and enhance C#‑based, n‑tier enterprise software and produce associated documentation per AEC standards.
* Build and maintain automated build and deployment scripts in the .NET (Core) environment and other Microsoft technology stacks.
* Follow Agile Methodology using tools such as Azure DevOps.
* Liaise with technical and business staff to resolve fielded production issues promptly.
* Provide analysis on complex issues and contribute to project management and policy formulation.
* Maintain key internal and external relationships, managing stakeholders to achieve agency objectives.
* Deliver accurate specialist advice, guidance, and reporting on team responsibilities.
* Apply professional judgment in decision‑making, governed by legislation, regulations, and best practice.
* Share code and development learnings with the Developer Centre of Excellence to inform continuous improvement.
* Contribute to election readiness activities and adhere to agency frameworks.
* Perform additional responsibilities as directed by the Director / Team Leader.
Qualifications
* Proven experience as a software developer with proficiency in C#.
* Knowledge of authentication protocols (OAuth, JWT) and API security best practices.
* Familiarity with databases, data structures, and integration patterns.
* Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
* Strong communication skills for collaborating with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Understanding of Microsoft Azure services (App Services, Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus) and other .NET components (Blazor, React).
* Experience with GraphSQL, SOAP, microservices or other API technologies.
* Strong grasp of RESTful API design principles and practical experience with API frameworks, tools, and testing methodologies.
