We embrace the rich history that comes with working for the Herald whilst operating out of the most modern, advanced newsroom in the country.Job DescriptionThe Sydney Morning Herald is seeking a part-time, 3-day a week sub-editor/digital producer to sub-edit, rewrite copy, source and add digital assets to articles and publish them in our fast-paced newsroom. The role would suit someone who thrives in a breaking news environment working to tight deadlines.Day to day you will:Review stories in the content management system with an intense focus on quality and deadlinesIdentify errors or mistakes in storiesWrite engaging and accurate SEO headlines, write-offs/precedes, and captions to improve audience engagement with our storiesLiaise with reporters and topic editors to edit stories and rework copyEnhance stories with other assets such as photographs, videos, graphics, multimedia and key pointsCo-operate with production editor(s) to ensure the flow of work will meet deadlinesMonitor blogs as required to ensure live copy is error-free and of high qualityPlease note this role may work across morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts.QualificationsWhat we would like to see:Previous experience in sub-editing and production for online publishingExcellent knowledge of the English language, grammar and syntaxUnderstanding of legal best-practice including defamation and contempt lawsAbility to work quickly and accurately to deadlinesAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamExperience in print production (copy-fitting and/or basic layout) is desirable but not essential.Additional InformationOur Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion:We're committed to a safe, respectful and inclusive Nine.
