We are seeking a Dementia Support Assistant to join our team at Eldercare Sash Ferguson at Mt Barker.
The successful candidate will provide individualized one-on-one support and engagement to residents living with dementia in our Memory Support Units.
This role will work closely with our site-based leadership team and receive professional support from our Clinical Nurse Consultant – Dementia to deliver high-quality care and support to residents.
* Provide individualized care and support to residents living with dementia, including assistance with emotional support
* Engage residents in meaningful activities aligned with their background and interests, generating comfort, familiarity and positive emotion
* Create a safe and supportive environment for residents, promoting independence, dignity and optimal wellbeing
* Foster a calm and reassuring environment, responding empathetically to residents' emotional needs
* Provide backup to care staff assisting residents with activities of daily living if required by site management
Key Responsibilities:
* Be a vibrant and enthusiastic person to join our team
* Possess a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or Aged Care – or equivalent
* Have 6 months experience in Aged Care
* Be experienced in participating and arranging recreational or leisure pursuits
* Have specific experience in working with Older People (dementia specific experience an advantage)
* Be passionate about enhancing the wellbeing of our residents
* Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Be enthusiastic and motivated, showing a willingness to learn
* Have great time management and organisational skills
* Have the ability to think autonomously and show initiative
* Be able to interact positively with residents and their families

Please note that you will be required to have a police clearance valid for working in aged care (unsupervised contact with vulnerable people) and the clearance needs to be less than 12 months since date of issue.
