Primary objective

Provide community allied health services within a multidisciplinary context, to individual clients residing in remote settings, utilising a time

limited, goal based, assessment/consultative service delivery model in collaboration with families, schools, clinics, aged care services and

other involved stakeholders, within government legislation and allocated resources.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Based on contemporary best practice, provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate community based Occupational Therapy

services utilising a consultative model to investigate, plan, develop and monitor programs responsive to individual client needs.

1. In consultation with families, carers, guardians and health care providers, provide care coordination and liaise closely with service

providers and community networks to ensure effective and efficient outcomes for clients.

3. Under the direction of the Team Leader, provide clinical supervision, support and education to staff and students.

4. Work with existing community services to develop and enhance their capacity to meet client needs.

5. Maintain electronic and paper client clinical records to ensure continuity of care and undertake administrative duties in relation to

effective service delivery.

6. Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of local work unit, Branch and Department of Health plans and

policies.

1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy from an Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration

with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and eligible for membership with Occupational Therapy Australia.

2. Relevant post-graduate experience in providing contemporary Occupational Therapy services to clients and families/carers.

1. Demonstrated ability to work independently as an Occupational Therapist and perform effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary

team providing a quality service within legislative, policy and ethical requirements.

4. Experience in clinical supervision of students and staff and a commitment to professional development.

5. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary practice, trends and principles in the fields of developmental delay and/or chronic

disease and ageing and best practice service delivery models for the relevant client group.

1. A well-developed understanding of the impact of cross-cultural issues, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent, on

allied health service provision, including an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

7. Demonstrated ability to work within legislative and policy frameworks in delivering services to people with allied health and assistive

technology support needs including the management of client information.

8. Demonstrated high standard of oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, time management and organisation to ensure

effective teamwork.

9. Hold current NT drivers' licence or have the ability to obtain and ability and willingness to travel by car, 4WD vehicle and/or light

aircraft to visit and work in rural and remote communities for periods of up to 5-days at a time.

Desirable

1. Successful completion of Aged Care Assessment training.
