Position Information

Irrawang Public School is situated on Worimi Country in the town of Raymond Terrace and has a strong focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). The school has an enrolment of 318 students (Years P-6), with approximately 40% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and the school’s Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) is 165. Irrawang Public School hosts a Schools as Community Centre (SaCC), Thou Walla. Strong partnerships are maintained with the local Youyoong Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), providing meaningful opportunities for students to celebrate and strengthen their cultural identity. The school has an active Junior AECG that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and is fortunate to be supported by a small but dedicated Parents and Citizens’ (P&C) Association. Irrawang Public School is a committed member of the Lakeside Learning Community and the Port Stephens network of schools, strengthening collaboration and continuity of learning across the local area.




Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

* A collaborative and approachable leader who motivates and supports staff, fostering genuine and respectful engagement across the entire school community to promote an ongoing commitment to student growth and improvement.



* Demonstrated capacity to strategically lead staff in inclusive, future-focused learning through a shared vision that embeds high expectations, outstanding pedagogy, and curriculum leadership across a P–6 setting.

* Proven ability to lead whole-school staff and student wellbeing processes that respond to the diverse needs of the school community.


General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people


ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2026.
