Position Details
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Two years of food service management experience.
2. Ability to work with staff and the public effectively.
3. Use computer spreadsheets, word processing, and food service point-of-sale software effectively.
4. Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion.
5. Ability to organize, plan, and meet deadlines.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
6. College degree in Food Service Management or equivalent
7. Michigan school district or institutional food service management experience.
8. MSBO Food Service Director certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Basic Function
9. Managed food service operations and related personnel activities for Haslett Public Schools and Williamston Community Schools as part of a collaboration agreement.
Supervision
10. Interviews, recommends employment, trains, evaluates, and disciplines the Food Service staff.
11. Understands and administers union contracts for Food Service employees.
12. Supervises, schedules, prioritizes, and assigns the work of the Food Service staff.
13. Provides necessary in-service training for Food Service personnel.
14. Maintains and updates a manual of procedures and policies for all Food Service personnel.
Operations
15. Plans and implements daily menus according to USDA and U.S. Dietary Guidelines, with detailed attention given to the food preferences of students, staff, and the community.
16. Administers the Federal Child Nutrition Program for the district, including interpretation of rules, production planning, recipe development, product specifications, shipping, receiving, and inventory storage/control.
17. Establishes and maintains food quality standards, safe food handling practices, and facilities per local, state, and federal regulations.
18. Purchases and maintains an inventory of all food, supplies, and equipment.
19. Establishes and maintains a marketing program, including merchandising, promotions, nutrition education, student/parent input, and public relations.
20. Provides acceptable program performance in all areas monitored by regulatory agencies.
21. Supervises the planning and preparation of any special meals/catering required for district-sponsored or other events.
22. Completes on-site reviews as required by the Child Nutrition Program.
Accounting
23. Works with the Business Office to maintain current and accurate financial and payroll records.
24. Receipts and deposits all Food Service revenues according to District procedures.
25. Prepares financial forecasts and budgets for the program.
26. Prepares and maintains all Food Service grant applications in MEGS+.
27. Prepares and submits monthly meal claims on the Michigan Nutrition Data System.
28. Collects and maintains free and reduced meal applications from families.
29. Prepares audit documentation as needed for Food Service program audits.
30. Recommends program and price changes.
Communications
31. Provide periodic reports for the Board of Education or community as necessary or desired.
32. Interprets, reviews, develops, and recommends Food Service policies, procedures, and practices.
33. Interacts with District personnel, students, external agencies, and the public.
General
34. Performs all duties assigned by the Food Service Director
35. Provides leadership, planning, and monitoring of new construction and renovation projects related to the Food Service program.
36. Follows and administers District policies and procedures.
37. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
38. Attends appropriate meetings, conferences, and workshops to promote the coordination and development of the Food Service program.
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 220 Days
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS: $35,000 – $40,000
39. Salary commensurate with education, experience, and length of work year.
