Staff Specialist 1FTE Anaesthesia or International Medical Graduate (specialist Pathway) Blue Mountains - Nepean
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be divided between Nepean and Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospitals within the Department of Anaesthesia.
NBMLHD services a population of over 350,000 people in Western Sydney. Nepean Hospital has 550 beds, 15.7 operating theatres and a 24 bedded ICU. There are over 4,000 deliveries a year, in excess of 60,000 ED presentations per year and approximately 20,000 operations per year. All surgical specialties are provided except for cardiac and major paediatric surgery. The department is ANZCA accredited and has approximately 70 specialist anaesthetists and 35 trainees. There is also a tertiary level Faculty of Pain Medicine accredited Pain Unit. Blue Mountains Hospital is situated at Katoomba and has 106 beds, two operating theatres and 4 bedded Close Observation Unit.
Successful applicants will be enthusiastic, skilled professionals with a commitment to providing excellent clinical care in a tertiary public hospital. They will be joining a diverse, friendly, and supportive environment with growing opportunities to develop sub specialist interests in our rapidly expanding hospital which underwent substantial redevelopment in 2022.
The number of clinical sessions at each site will be by negotiation with the department. On-call will be based at Blue Mountains Hospital and allocated on a pro rata basis. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD. Non-clinical time and paid leave for continuing education are included according to the award.
The position is open to international medical graduates subject to meeting the relevant equivalency, registration and visa requirements and Appropriate supervision as required for the ANZCA specialist accreditation pathway will be provided to successful applicants.

Selection Criteria
1. Possess or be eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) OR be eligible for the international medical graduate specialist accreditation pathway through ANZCA.
2. Possess Fellowship of the Australia New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
3. Sound clinical knowledge in Anaesthesia demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
4. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
6. Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award
