Job Title: Senior Legal Officer
This role offers a unique opportunity to lead in preparing and managing complex matters referred to prosecution. As a Senior Legal Officer, you will be responsible for preparing cases on complex matters, including appeals, as well as advocating in court for appeals, sentences, committal hearings, and bail applications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Preparing prosecution cases with professionalism and timeliness.
* Collaborating with stakeholders such as defence counsel, solicitors, police, victims, and witnesses to maintain clear communication.
* Advocating in court for appeals, sentences, committal hearings, and bail applications across various courts.
* Engaging with complainants and relatives with sensitivity and compassion, particularly in cases involving sexual or violent offences.
* Leading and mentoring legal officers and support staff to inspire high standards and professional growth.
* Identifying opportunities to improve work practices and streamline processes.
Requirements:
* Admission as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia.
* Expertise in applying legal principles and drafting documents with confidence and professionalism.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to navigate multi-stakeholder environments.
* A proven track record of mentoring and training legal teams to achieve outstanding results.
* A trauma-informed approach when supporting victims of crime.
* A commitment to maintaining high standards of ethics and competency in all aspects of work.
