The Hospital:
This Hospital is a public (government) institution comprising of emergency services and acute medical, surgical, paediatric, orthopaedic, obstetric/gynaecological and psychiatric services, as well as a rehabilitation unit. There is an associated public health facility and an alcohol, tobacco and other drugs unit.
This Hospital is a teaching hospital and houses the main campus of the South-West Queensland Region Rural Clinical School. The Rural Clinical School is currently in its fourth year of operation, and has proved extremely popular with medical students, who frequently choose to continue at the hospital as interns. The Rural School also caters for students of physiotherapy, pharmacy, occupational therapy and speech pathology through a multi-professional education program. Both staff and students are provided with excellent university library facilities, supported by considerable research opportunities, and a wide range of professional development activities.
This Hospital now plays a major and increasing teaching role within the University Of Queensland School Of Medicine. Its clinical teachers have won major educational awards, and there is a strong academic climate throughout all departments within the hospital, reflected by high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
