Work at least four shifts per fortnight on the Health Practitioner roster, including working one weekend per fortnight. Shifts will predominantly be day and afternoon shifts. Availability to work any rostered shift on any day of the week, with no exclusions, is a requirement of the role.
Key competencies (role-specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
* This modern laboratory has a positive culture and a high-performing team, so qualities of resilience, respect, positivity in a team environment, and well-developed communication skills are essential.
* Ability to participate in a multi-disciplinary team on any rostered shifts including weekends, public holidays, extra shifts, and overtime when necessary to maintain pathology services.
* Reliability and punctuality to ensure uninterrupted pathology service provision 24/7.
* Knowledge and understanding of the principles and procedures used in Haematology, Chemical Pathology, Immunoassay, Transfusion Medicine, some Microbiology, and Specimen Reception.
* Experience in performing Haematology, Chemical Pathology, Immunoassay, Transfusion Medicine investigations, Urine Microscopy, and rapid PCR.
* Experience in using software systems including a Laboratory Information System (such as Auslab), a Quality Control package, Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, BloodNet, an antibody register, POCT software, and more.
* Ability to solve problems, work calmly in challenging environments, and improve performance following feedback.
* Well-developed communication skills and ability to interact positively and respectfully with colleagues and clients.
* Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements
* The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) from a recognized university or tertiary institution.
* Your qualification should include Transfusion Medicine and Clinical Haematology components.
* Transfusion and Blood Film Morphology experience are highly desirable.
* Active membership of a relevant professional scientific association would be well-regarded.
* The candidate will be required to move and lift eskies of samples and blood products and to assist with moving and dispensing pathology consumables.
* Some shifts may be predominantly microscope work while seated; other shifts may be predominantly standing at laboratory benches.
