Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across our growing renewable energy portfolio. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of major infrastructure, energy transition, and Indigenous partnership, while operating as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Legal Counsel provides end‑to‑end legal support across commercial, project, and corporate activities. You will operate as a senior, pragmatic legal advisor, balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes in a fast‑growing, entrepreneurial environment.
This role would suit a Senior Associate, Special Counsel, Junior Partner, or Senior In‑House Counsel seeking a meaningful in‑house role with purpose and complexity.

Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) is a partnership between Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) and international renewable energy company, ACEN Corporation (ACEN). Representing one of the largest Indigenous‑led renewable energy initiatives in Australia, YEC will see the Yindjibarndi people and ACEN work together to develop wind, solar, and renewable energy storage projects on Yindjibarndi Ngurra (country) – an area covering approximately 13,000 km2 within the Yindjibarndi Native Title Determination Areas in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic legal advice across YEC’s renewable energy projects and corporate activities
* Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including EPC, O&M, PPA, procurement, JV and services agreements
* Support project development, construction and operational phases, including land access, tenure, and project delivery issues
* Advise on corporate governance, Boards, delegations, compliance frameworks and regulatory obligations
* Support project finance, acquisitions, divestments and joint ventures
* Identify and proactively manage legal and regulatory risk across the business
* Manage external legal counsel and legal spend effectively
* Translate complex legal issues into clear, commercial guidance for senior stakeholders
* Support dispute resolution and claims management where required
About You
You are a commercially minded legal professional who thrives in a dynamic, high‑trust environment and is comfortable operating at a senior advisory level.
What you will bring
* Australian legal qualification (LLB or JD) and admission to practice
* Current practising certificate (or ability to obtain)
* Strong background in commercial, projects, construction, infrastructure, energy or corporate law
* Demonstrated experience advising senior executives and boards
* Advanced contract drafting and negotiation skills
* Pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach to risk and problem‑solving
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Highly regarded
* Renewable energy or major projects experience
* Project finance and/or M&A exposure
* Prior in‑house experience within a project‑based or corporate environment
