For the Family Lawyer Who Wants Meaningful Work and a Sustainable Practice You have built solid family law experience across property settlements, parenting matters and mediation. The technical capability is there and you are confident managing a varied caseload with autonomy. But you are ready for an environment where the clients genuinely need you, the culture supports the way you want to work and the organisation behind the practice stands for something. This is an opportunity for a family lawyer with 5 years PAE to step into a busy, well-established role within a purpose-driven in-house legal practice, covering a maternity leave period of approximately 12 months with genuine potential for permanency. The Organisation The in-house legal practice of a leading Queensland healthcare union, delivering dedicated legal services to a membership base of over 70,000 healthcare professionals. With a team of 12 spanning family law, employment, health regulatory, estates and conveyancing, the family law practice has been operating for five years and is firmly gaining traction, underpinned by a strong and ongoing membership marketing push driving sustained demand. The Timing The caseload is busy, well-established and supported by a reliable referral pipeline drawn almost exclusively from union membership. Given the continued growth of the practice, there is genuine potential for the right person to transition into a permanent role at the conclusion of the contract. The Work Itself A caseload split of approximately 75% property and 25% parenting matters. Asset pools typically ranging from $500,000 to $7 million, with the average sitting between $2 million and $3 million. Property settlements, children's matters, consent orders, mediation and some domestic violence matters. The practice regularly briefs experienced junior and senior counsel through well-established referral relationships, and a senior family law specialist will be available in a casual capacity to support your transition. Where You'll Land A genuinely flat, family-friendly culture with full autonomy to manage your own time. A 37.5-hour working week, three days in office and two days from home, five weeks paid annual leave and three additional favour days over Christmas and New Year. EBA-governed remuneration with two pay increases per year, paid parental leave and on-site rostered parking. Sound Like You?
