Apprentice – Civil Construction
Join the Sutherland Shire Council as an apprentice in the Civil Works and Presentation team. Over four years you will complete a nationally recognised Certificate III in Civil Construction while gaining practical, hands‑on experience.
Position Overview
This four‑year apprenticeship provides comprehensive training. You will assist with planned and reactive maintenance, restoration and construction of civil assets such as roads, footpaths and stormwater infrastructure.
Your Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities Will Include
* Working with concrete and asphalt to construct and repair surfaces.
* Performing excavation and concrete cutting tasks.
* Operating limited plant and equipment under supervision.
* Assisting with traffic management and basic surveying activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Adhere to Council's Code of Conduct, policies and all relevant legislation.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
* Maintain a strong focus on safety and promptly report hazards or risks.
* Complete all mandatory training within required timeframes.
* Demonstrate Council values in every interaction with colleagues and the community.
* Participate in performance reviews and take accountability for your development.
* Use Council resources responsibly and sustainably.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn, committed to building a career in civil construction, and willing to work hard to achieve their goals.
Essential
* Completion of Year 10 Record of School Achievement.
* Ability to meet manual handling and physical requirements of the role.
* Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and use trade‑related equipment.
* A genuine interest in civil construction and infrastructure projects.
Desirable
* Current Class C driver's licence.
Benefits and Compensation
* Package: $43,024.80 gross per annum plus 12% superannuation.
* Interview date: Thursday 8 January 2026 (afternoon).
* Work hours: Temporary Full Time, 38 hours per week with a 9‑day fortnight.
