About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Design and Engineering, at our brand new Port Melbourne facility the Senior Industrial Designer will have the opportunity to collaborate in cross functional environment by working on the entire product development process from sketches, CAD, rendering, through to tooling development and manufacturing.
Responsibilities
* Researching local and international markets to identify new trends and innovations.
* Generating concept designs experienced Solidworks surfacing skills.
* Collaboration with tooling engineers to move projects through to manufacturing.
* Rendering 3D CAD models in key shot.
* Develop product concepts based on user needs, business goals, and manufacturing constraints.
* Design plastic parts optimized for mass production (e.g., injection molding, thermoforming).
* Apply best practices for plastic part design, including draft, wall thickness, ribs, snap-fits, and assembly strategies.
* Select appropriate plastic materials based on performance, cost, aesthetics, and sustainability.
* Build and evaluate prototypes to test ergonomics, fit, function, and appearance.
* Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, manufacturers, and tooling partners.
* Support design reviews, tooling kickoffs, and production ramp-up.
* Iterate designs based on testing, manufacturing feedback, and cost targets.
* Ensure designs align with brand guidelines and product strategy.
* Assist with production approvals and QC reviews.
Qualifications
* Must have great Solidworks and surfacing skills.
* Must have - Industrial Design or Product Design Tertiary qualification.
* 5 years industry design consultancy or FMCG experience.
* Exceptional Keyshot, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop skills.
* Sound understanding of manufacturing product requirements.
* Commercial mindset with a customer centric approach.
* A desire to work as a part of a team with the ability to work in high pressure fast moving and agile environments.
* Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
* Please note that we are not looking for mechanical engineers.
