The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Anaesthetics is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for multiple Staff Specialist vacancies.

Applications are sought for both Specialist Anaesthetists with a strong general clinical background and those with subspecialty expertise in cardiac anaesthesia. Successful cardiac subspecialty applicants would also be expected to participate in general clinical anaesthetic duties. Experience in teaching and quality assurance in an Australian or New Zealand public hospital setting is preferred.

For cardiac subspecialty applicants the following would be desirable:

* Recent fellowship or consultant practice in cardiac anaesthesia
* Ability to perform and interpret comprehensive intraoperative trans‐oesophageal echocardiography, with completion or near‐completion of an appropriate training programme

The Role

* Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to patients and their families, including participation in an out‐of‐hours on‐call roster.
* Actively pursue performance improvements in the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine by involvement in clinical support roles.
* Actively pursue improved outcomes for patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to anaesthesia.

Salary

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $222,789 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $305,539 with further salary increments available.

* Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 – $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

* Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle (subject to working full‐time hours) OR allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,786 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
* Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $17,483 pro rata per annum.
* On‐call allowance % of Base Salary.
* All other allowances as per current Award.
* And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on‐call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Details of Appointment

Multiple position available

* Fixed term full‐time and part‐time day work (with on‐call), working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as you're ready to join our team until April 2028.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‐time, part‐time and casual vacancies.

Essential Requirements

* Holds specialist registration; or
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.

The following checks are to be conducted:

* Conviction checks in the following areas: Crimes of violence, Sex related offences, Serious drug offences, Crimes involving dishonesty, Serious traffic offences.
* Identification check
* Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

* Recognition as an Anaesthetist by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) holding FANZCA or equivalent.
* Experience in Obstetric, Neurosurgical and Paediatric Anaesthesia in the last 12 months.
* Clinical exposure at a tertiary hospital standard within the last 12 months.
