About the Role
As an Emergency Department (ED) Nurse, you will play a critical role in delivering frontline care to patients with a wide range of acute, urgent, and critical conditions. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams to provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care in a high-pressure environment.
You will:
- Assess, triage, and manage patients presenting to the emergency department
- Deliver advanced nursing interventions including resuscitation, trauma, and acute care
- Administer medications and monitor treatment outcomes
- Collaborate with doctors, allied health, and support staff to deliver integrated patient care
- Respond to medical emergencies promptly and effectively
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold high standards of patient safety and quality care
- Provide emotional support and communication to patients and families in stressful situations
Key Responsibilities
- Triage patients according to acuity using recognised assessment frameworks
- Stabilise and monitor critically unwell patients
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care across trauma, cardiac, paediatrics, mental health, and other acute presentations
- Escalate clinical concerns and initiate emergency response protocols as required
- Contribute to continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the department
- Ensure infection control, workplace health and safety, and hospital policy compliance
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Minimum 2 years' recent experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Competency in IV cannulation, ECG interpretation, venepuncture, and medication administration
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to adapt to the changing demands of emergency care
Desirable qualifications include:
- Postgraduate qualifications in Emergency or Critical Care Nursing
- ALS, Triage, or Trauma Nursing certificates
