The Department
Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health's strategic goals and operational performance targets. Clinical service provision is focused on inpatient care, as well as outpatient services across a spectrum of specialties including aged care, plastic and orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, spinal, amputee and burns. The Occupational Therapy Service is committed to the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care, and strongly values professional development and clinical supervision.
The Alfred Health Plastics, Hand Therapy and Bruns Stream provides outpatient services to patients Monday to Friday, including post-operative and new fracture clinics, complex nerve injury, burns, and the adaptive hand clinic (surgical diversion for chronic conditions). The stream also includes an inpatient service for burns patients and traumatic hand injury.
The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Alfred Health Occupational Therapy (OT) Hand Therapy team as a senior clinician. The person in this role will bring a high level of clinical expertise to support patients across a range of Alfred Health outpatient clinics They will apply this knowledge, skill, and expertise to provide high quality clinical service provision and to lead and develop the clinical practice of individuals and teams.
This role will include operational and service support duties which may include the opportunity to lead various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, Allied Health directorate, as well as the clinical program, and representing Allied Health on allocated committees. They will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or occupational therapy students.
It is a requirement of all Alfred Health staff that they may be required to work across all Alfred Health site (The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital) including weekends and public holidays, based on clinical service demands.
Qualifications Required
- B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent.
- Post graduate qualification (Masters level) in one of Occupational Therapy, Public Health, Research and/or Health Management OR Accredited Hand Therapist (AHT) as credentialed by the AHTA, or working towards same.
- Full Registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Member of OT Australia (or eligible for membership).
- Current Victorian Driver’s License (unrestricted).
Essential Experience Required
- Minimum seven years’ clinical experience in Occupational Therapy or equivalent (including a minimum of four years in clinical specialty area)
- Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership in hand therapy.
- Well-developed leadership skills, including the ability to undertake qualified supervision and promote professional competence of other hand therapy staff.
- A clear understanding of Hand Therapy Service strategic priorities specific to a large, public health care provider.
