We are seeking a self-motivated, energetic person who is able to be flexible and work positively within our small team at Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre.This is a temporary part-time position of 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday, 7.6 hours per day), totaling 60.8 hours and 0.80 FTE per fortnight, with an immediate start until 02 April 2026, unless otherwise determined.About The RoleBunyaville Environmental Education Centre is an innovative and dynamic Department of Education Centre set in the tranquil eucalyptus forest of Bunyaville Conservation Park in north-west Brisbane. Our dedicated and highly skilled teachers deliver environmental education programs to students from Kindy to Year 12 at their school, at our Centre, or within the Bunyaville Conservation Park. Through day visit programs, we primarily teach Science, Geography, and the cross-curricular priorities of Sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. Your main role as the Unit Support Officer is to support teachers in delivering these programs and to maintain the grounds and equipment to a high standard.ResponsibilitiesThe Unit Support Officer role is diverse and includes the following responsibilities:Preparation and setup of resources for daily program delivery.Cleanup and pack-up of resources after programs.Maintenance and storage of program resources and equipment.Maintain centre grounds and facilities, undertake improvement activities, and assist with the maintenance and adjustment of plant and equipment required for the centre's operation.Assist teachers and instructors in outdoor and environmental education programs, including minor maintenance of machinery, scientific, and audiovisual equipment.Grounds maintenance and improvement, including paths, fixtures, garden areas, rubbish removal, and recycling.Assist with educational programs by delivering practical instruction, constructing props, monitoring consumables, and making purchase recommendations.Planning and development of natural learning areas.Office duties such as answering phones, preparing certificates, photocopying, creating booklets, artwork, and video filming.About YouThe ideal candidate will have:Knowledge of grounds care and equipment maintenance (Trade qualification preferred).Flexibility, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Ability to work in a forest environment.What You Need To SucceedA manual driver's license is highly desirable.Standard working hours are 7 am to 4:30 pm.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements.How To ApplyAttach a brief resume with contact details for two referees who understand your relevant work history.Provide a one-page written statement explaining how your achievements and capabilities meet the role requirements.We welcome applicants requiring support to ensure an inclusive recruitment process.Applications are valid for 12 months and may be considered for similar vacancies within the Department.Recruitment agencies are not accepted.Applicants must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card).The salary rate is based on full-time (1.0 FTE).The Department of Education promotes a family-inclusive workplace.
