Our studio is seeking a seasoned Design Leader to spearhead our dynamic team. As the go-to person in the design discipline, you will represent the team in strategic meetings and translate studio vision into actionable objectives for the team. This is a temporary position to cover a leadership gap.
* Lead and represent the design team within the leadership group.
* Ensure designers' voices are heard and considered in decision-making.
* Foster a collaborative and creative work environment.
* Conduct regular 1:1s with designers to check in on well-being, workload, and growth.
* Set clear expectations, responsibilities, and goals for each team member.
* Provide constructive feedback and coaching to support professional development.
* Identify training opportunities, workshops, or mentoring to upskill the team.
* Evaluate designers' performance fairly and transparently in alignment with studio values and project needs.
* Address underperformance with support plans while recognizing and rewarding excellence.
* Foster cross-discipline collaboration and ensure consistent design practices and documentation.
* Assess team capacity and skill distribution across projects; partner with HR/recruiting to hire and onboard designers effectively.
* Build succession plans and identify potential future leaders within the team.
Key Qualifications:
* Experience as a Lead Game Designer with a background in high-profile titles.
* Shipped at least one high-profile title in a Lead Game Designer role.
* Proven experience building and leading teams through full production cycles.
* Proven experience pitching and collaborating with clients, leadership, designers, programmers, and artists to realize a shared vision.
* Proactive leader comfortable working in a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team in a Senior level role.
Requirements:
* Bachelor degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design or related field.
* At least 3 years of experience in the game industry as a designer or lead designer.
* Portfolio showcasing relevant work and experience.
* Excellent communication and project management skills.
* Ability to adapt to new technologies and workflows quickly.
