Cultural Development Officer Job Description

The role of Cultural Development Officer is a critical part of our organisation's commitment to providing culturally safe services to children, young people, and families. As a Cultural Development Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the development of our cultural framework and ensuring that it is embedded across the organisation.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide high-quality cultural advice and direction to assist in informing decisions about the safety needs of all children in our care. This will involve working closely with our team to prepare annual cultural support plans for all children and developing genograms to help them grow strong in their cultural identity.

You will also be responsible for guiding and supporting the development of Life Story Books for all children and young people, focusing on the cultural aspects of the book. This includes cultural connections, language, and community information. Additionally, you will work with Case Managers in supporting foster carers in developing skills and knowledge in cultural responsiveness through consultations and training.

We are seeking an experienced professional who has a genuine understanding of Aboriginal culture and experience in delivering high standards of service and achieving strong client satisfaction. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to positively interact with our staff, clients, and community stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following skills and qualifications:

* Aboriginality: We require a genuine understanding of Aboriginal culture and experience in working with Aboriginal communities.
* High-level organisation skills: Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects.
* Communication skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to positively interact with staff, clients, and community stakeholders.
* Writing skills: Strong writing skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise reports and documents.
* Tertiary qualification: A tertiary qualification in Community Services, Youth Service, or equivalent, or a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.
