Harry Maxwell has been engaged to recruit an experienced Payroll Officer to support a growing organisation with a diverse workforce across civil, infrastructure, and commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely payroll services, ensuring compliance with legislation and awards, and providing strong payroll support to internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end‐to‐end payroll processing for weekly and fortnightly pay cycles.
* Ensure accurate calculation of wages, allowances, overtime, deductions, and leave entitlements.
* Interpret and apply relevant Awards, EBAs, Fair Work requirements, and company policies.
* Maintain payroll records, employee data, and documentation with a high level of accuracy.
* Process new starters, terminations, contract changes, and employee movements.
* Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and month‐end/EOFY requirements (PAYG, superannuation, STP).
* Respond to payroll queries from employees, managers, and external stakeholders.
* Liaise with HR, finance, and project teams to ensure payroll alignment across the business.
* Support compliance with legislation, taxation requirements, and internal audit processes.
* Assist with the continuous improvement of payroll systems, processes, and reporting frameworks.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in payroll processing within construction, civil, or similar industries (preferred).
* Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Awards, EBAs, and Fair Work compliance.
* Proficiency with payroll and workforce management systems (e.g., Micropay, MYOB, Xero, HRIS platforms).
* High attention to detail and strong numerical accuracy.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to support and guide employees.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast‐paced environment.
