Job Description
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Where and How You Can Work
Our flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of our Surry Hills neighbourhood. It's a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate, focus, and connect. This role is based in Sydney, and we're looking for someone who calls it home. Our hybrid way of working gives you the flexibility to work remotely, and to come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection when it matters most. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What You'd Be Doing In This Role
At the moment, this role is focused on:
* Owning the Canva Newsroom end‐to‐end including editorial calendar, publishing cadence, newsletter program, press‐facing content, and overall site experience, ensuring every piece reflects Canva's voice and meets the highest editorial standards.
* Setting and driving editorial strategy across major content moments including product launches, partnerships, acquisitions, and leadership announcements, working closely with comms, marketing, product, AI, people, content, and engineering teams.
* Writing and editing across a wide range of formats: Newsroom articles, founder and leadership opinion pieces, thought leadership content, organic social captions for Canva leadership and brand channels, newsletters, and community communications.
* Acting as a strategic content partner to senior leaders, developing copy in their distinct voices and supporting them as credible, consistent public voices across owned channels.
* Building and leading Canva's leadership social program, advising executives on their social presence, working hands‐on to develop and produce content (including filming and editing), and creating the frameworks and best practices that set a repeatable standard for leadership storytelling at scale.
* Leading the amplification strategy for Newsroom content, including press‐first publishing, newsletter program, exec social distribution, and internal stakeholder alignment.
* Growing and stewarding the Newsroom's thought leadership content including managing contributor pipelines and maintaining editorial quality across bylined and ghostwritten content.
You're probably a match if you
* Have extensive experience in editorial, content strategy, or communications – ideally spanning both consumer and B2B audiences, and with a track record of owning programs independently.
* Are an exceptional writer and editor with strong narrative instincts and the ability to write confidently in other people's voices across a range of formats and tones.
* Are a strategic thinker comfortable setting direction, influencing stakeholders, and making editorial judgment calls without a lot of oversight.
* Have experience working with or advising senior leaders on their public voice and thought leadership.
* Have hands‐on experience managing a CMS and a solid understanding of SEO and AEO best practices, and can optimise content for both search visibility and AI‐driven discovery without sacrificing editorial quality.
* Have a track record of building or scaling a leadership social program, with hands‐on experience producing social content, and a strong instinct for what resonates with social audiences.
* Possess strong project management instincts with the ability to track multiple deliverables across teams and keep things on schedule.
* Be comfortable with content analytics and performance reporting, drawing insights from data across owned and social channels to inform editorial strategy and demonstrate impact.
* Be a collaborative partner easy to work with under pressure, bringing care and craft to every piece of work.
* Be familiar with Canva as both a product and a company, and have a genuine appreciation for the editorial standards of a press‐facing destination.
About the Team
The Canva Newsroom is our editorial home: the place we tell Canva's story to the world. As its owner, you'll set the editorial vision, shape the narratives that reach journalists, partners, business decision makers, educators, and the broader Canva community, and own everything that goes out under the Newsroom banner. This is a rare opportunity to lead a high‐profile content program with genuine autonomy.
Equal Opportunity Statement
We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, and on how you can enhance Canva and its culture. When you apply, please tell us the pronouns you use and any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process.
