Health and Safety Professional
The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe working environment by advising on best practices, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, and leading safety initiatives. This role is key in fostering a safety-first culture throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and maintain workplace health and safety programs and policies.
* Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and audits across worksites and facilities.
* Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards; provide detailed reports and follow-up actions.
* Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, WHMIS).
* Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and orientation sessions for employees and contractors.
* Advise management and staff on occupational health and safety matters.
* Coordinate emergency response plans, drills, and first aid readiness.
* Liaise with regulatory agencies, third-party auditors, and internal stakeholders.
* Monitor and report on safety performance metrics and recommend improvements.
* Support development of Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
* Keep up to date with relevant health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
Qualifications:
* Degree, diploma, or certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related discipline.
* 3+ years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in industry-specific experience if needed.
* In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal abilities.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
* CRSP, NEBOSH, CHSC, or equivalent health and safety certifications.
* Experience with ISO 45001, COR, or other safety management systems.
* First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, or other relevant safety training certifications.
* Incident investigation (e.g., TapRooT, Root Cause Analysis) training.
