Tax Manager
Position Overview We are seeking a Tax Manager to lead and execute comprehensive tax compliance, provision, planning and controversy matters for a dynamic, growing organization. The Tax Manager will oversee federal, state, local and international tax obligations, drive tax accounting (ASC 740) and financial reporting activities, manage a small team and coordinate with external advisors and cross‐functional stakeholders to optimize tax positions and controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead preparation, review and filing of federal, state, local and international tax returns and related tax compliance deliverables.
* Own and manage the ASC 740 tax provision process and related tax accounting, including deferred tax accounting and fixed asset tax considerations.
* Oversee indirect tax matters including sales and use tax, payroll tax and other transactional taxes; manage multistate tax filings and compliance.
* Support and coordinate international tax matters, transfer pricing interactions, and entity‐level tax planning for C‐Corps, S‐Corps, partnerships and other entity types.
* Manage tax aspects of M&A activity, including due diligence, integration support and tax structuring recommendations.
* Identify and execute tax planning opportunities, including R&D tax credits, tax credits & incentives, and other tax‐efficient structuring alternatives.
* Lead tax controversy and audit matters, including IRS representation and responses to tax authority inquiries.
* Develop and improve tax processes, internal controls and documentation to increase efficiency and reduce risk; implement tax process improvements and automation.
* Supervise, mentor and review work of tax staff and external consultants; prioritize workloads and ensure timely delivery of high‐quality outputs.
* Perform tax research on complex technical issues and provide clear guidance to finance, accounting and business teams.
* Operate and optimize tax and financial systems, including tax provision software and tax compliance platforms; partner with IT/ERP teams to leverage SAP, Oracle, NetSuite and other systems.
* Prepare and present tax reporting, analysis and recommendations to senior management and external auditors.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; advanced degree or Masters in Tax/Accounting a plus.
* Licensed CPA, or equivalent; strong consideration given to candidates with relevant tax credentials.
* Minimum 6‐8 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax roles; experience managing tax teams and projects.
* Demonstrated expertise in corporate tax, ASC 740 / tax provision, GAAP and familiarity with IFRS.
* Strong knowledge of state and local tax (SALT), multistate tax compliance, sales & use tax and payroll tax.
* Experience with international tax matters and transfer pricing considerations.
* Proven experience with tax research, tax filings, tax return preparation and tax structuring.
* Familiarity with R&D tax credits, tax credits & incentives, deferred tax accounting and fixed asset tax.
* Experience managing tax controversy, IRS audits and partnership tax matters.
* Hands‐on experience with tax software (ONESOURCE, CorpTax, UltraTax/Ultratax, Lacerte, ProSystem fx) and tax provision software.
* Experience integrating tax processes with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or NetSuite.
* Advanced Excel skills with experience in VBA and working knowledge of SQL for data analysis.
* Strong analytical, communication and leadership skills with a focus on process improvement and internal controls.
* Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage competing priorities and direct external advisors as needed.
