The Opportunity:
We're looking for a Senior Rangelands Officer to play a meaningful role in supporting the long‑term health and productivity of some of Australia's most extraordinary rangelands. In this role, you'll bring both technical expertise and practical insight to develop grazing strategies that improve land condition and strengthen sustainable, productive pastoral systems. As a key member of our Rangelands team, you'll lead and mentor our Rangelands Officers, working together to solve challenges, trial new ideas and champion better natural resource management across the business.
This is a
12‑month contract
with the possibility of extension. The role can be based in
Darwin, Mount Isa, Tennant Creek or Katherine,
offering flexibility for the right candidate.
What you'll do:
* Develop and deliver technical services that support precision pasture management.
* Provide guidance, support and day-to-day leadership to Rangelands Officers.
* Drive innovation, research and development that improves sustainable production.
* Assist with budget planning, establishment and ongoing tracking.
* Set annual work plans and priorities for Rangelands Officers.
* Provide technical advice to strengthen sustainable farming practices.
* Develop grazing strategies that optimise sustainable production and land condition.
* Contribute to natural capital and biodiversity assessments.
* Work collaboratively with station management, operational teams and contractors.
* Partner closely with the wider Sustainability and Environment team to support aligned outcomes.
What you'll bring:
* Strong understanding of GIS software and its practical application in land management.
* Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable farming practices.
* Proven understanding of natural resource management and environmental issues relevant to the pastoral industry, including pasture and land condition, weeds, biodiversity, soil health and erosion.
* Sound knowledge of production systems and market drivers within the cattle industry.
* The ability to engage, influence and build NRM capability across pastoral teams and land managers.
* A current driver's licence and confidence in off-road and remote area driving.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
