Our train crews are the frontline of our operations, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of thousands of visitors each year. We are committed to maintaining the highest safety standards and providing comprehensive training for our operational roles.
The Opportunity
We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our Train Crew as Guards. This role is crucial for the safe operation of our heritage trains and for providing an engaging experience for our passengers. We welcome both qualified Guards and new volunteers eager to undertake a traineeship. This is a hands-on, safety-critical role that requires commitment to learning and strict adherence to our operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Ensure the safe movement of trains, passengers, and staff in accordance with the DRR Rulebook and all safety procedures.
Conduct pre-departure checks and assist the Locomotive Driver.
Manage passenger boarding and alighting, ensuring doors are secured and safe.
Provide "right of way" signals and other essential communications to the Locomotive Driver.
Interact positively with passengers, providing information and ensuring a pleasant journey.
Handle tickets and assist with general customer service duties on the train.
Participate actively in all required training and competency assessments.
For trainees: Learn and apply all aspects of safe working procedures under direct supervision of qualified staff.
Adhere strictly to all DRR safety directives, including ensuring only qualified personnel perform operational tasks and ignoring instructions from non-qualified individuals.
