About The Role
We are seeking an experienced
Data Architect
to contribute to a major digital transformation program. You will be responsible for defining and overseeing the data architecture across a suite of new cloud-hosted applications. Your expertise will ensure data is structured, secure, and accessible across multiple systems and stakeholders.
This is a long-term opportunity (12 months with two possible 12-month extensions) based in Canberra, offering a hybrid working model. Candidates must be Australian Citizens and hold an
active Baseline clearance
, with the ability to obtain NV1.
Role And Responsibilities
* Define and maintain program-wide data architecture, including data domains, governance frameworks, and integration models
* Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to gather data requirements and design scalable, secure solutions
* Develop and document logical and physical data models for new cloud applications and shared services
* Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, cloud best practices, and compliance standards
* Lead integration patterns using APIs, event-driven models, or data pipelines
* Promote data consistency and reusability across projects and programs
* Mentor team members and provide expert guidance in data lifecycle management and performance optimisation
Essential Criteria
* Proven experience as a Data Architect on large-scale transformation or application development programs
* Strong proficiency in conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling
* Expertise with cloud data platforms such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Cosmos DB, and Synapse
* Sound understanding of data governance, metadata, master data management, and data lineage
* Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate in project-based environments
* Experience working in Agile delivery teams
* Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable Criteria
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience
* Certifications in cloud architecture or data engineering (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate)
* Experience with integration architectures (REST APIs, ETL/ELT, message queues)
* Exposure to privacy frameworks, identity management, and security best practices
