Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (SHSAC) is a community-controlled health organisation dedicated to delivering culturally safe and holistic primary health care to remote Aboriginal communities across the Northern Territory. The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a dynamic and culturally aware Cancer Awareness Team Leader to coordinate and deliver cancer education and support programs across Sunrise communities. This is a full-time position based in Katherine, with regular travel to remote areas.
You will lead a small team of Cancer Support Officers and work collaboratively with clinical teams, community leaders, and partner organisations to promote cancer prevention, early detection, and access to culturally appropriate services.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver culturally safe cancer education and awareness activities
* Facilitate community sessions and yarning circles to reduce stigma and promote screening
* Support clients with appointment navigation, referrals, transport, and psychosocial needs
* Co-design health promotion materials in partnership with community members
* Supervise and mentor Cancer Support Officers in community-based outreach
* Build partnerships with NT Health Oncology, Wurli Wurlinjang, and other service providers
* Track engagement, attendance, and screening data to meet NACCHO reporting requirements
* Participate in interagency forums and represent SHSAC at regional cancer events
What You'll Bring
* Tertiary qualification in public health, health promotion, nursing, community development, or a related field
* Current AHPRA registration is required for this position
* Demonstrated experience delivering cancer or chronic disease programs in Aboriginal communities
* Minimum of 3+ years' experience delivering cancer or chronic disease programs in Aboriginal communities
* Experience supervising staff and working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
* Minimum of 2+ years' staff supervision experience is required
* Strong understanding of the cancer care continuum and Aboriginal health context
* Excellent communication and community engagement skills
* Ability to travel regularly to remote communities
* Manual car driving licence is required for regular travel to remote communities
* National Police Check, OCHRE card, and current vaccination status
* Australian working rights
