The Role
The Project Officer within the Senior Officer Review Branch (SOR) provides high-quality project coordination and administrative support to the Senior Project Manager and Director Senior Officer Review. The role supports end-to-end project activities, including governance processes, preparation of presentations and documentation, handling sensitive and confidential information in relation to the Senior Officer Workforce. This position directly contributes to the delivery of timely, accurate, and defensible outcomes for the O6 Position Sustainability Review (PSR) and Biennial Review of Star Ranks (BRSR).
The position works with a high degree of independence, sound judgement, and accountability consistent with APS 6 Work Level Standards.
Some key tasks include, but not limited to:
* Maintain an understanding of the Senior Officer workforce structures, roles and organisational context to support review analysis.
* Support workforce planning analysis through data collation, trend identifications and preparation of inputs for review documentation.
* Contribute to organisational design activities by mapping structures, validating position data and supporting development of options.
* Use Excel to manage position datasets, performing input, validation and development of visual aids in support of reviews and presentations.
* Draft and coordinate submission products to the SPM and other requirements, to support senior decision-making.
* Support audit-ready documentation, ensuring traceability and clear evidence trails for decisions and recommendations.
* Coordinate working groups, committees, and consultations to facilitate exchange of information.
* Provide operational and financial coordination support including reserve/budget bids, tracking commitments, Sec 23 delegate, and progression / coordinating tasks from Office of Head Military Workforce Division, ensuring governance and reporting requirements are met.
* Provide day?to?day supervision, guidance, and task direction to the APS 4 Executive Assistant.
About our Team
Senior Officer Reviews Directorate (SOR), within Military Workforce Design Division (MWDD) was established in late 2024 to drive strategic workforce initiatives aligned with MWDDs mission. The Directorate comprises of a Senior Project Manager (DG), Director (EL2) and a team of 5 (both uniform and APS). The directorate is focused on delivering future-focused workforce projects in relation to Senior Officers

The candidate must be organised, proactive professional with strong project coordination and executive-level administrative experience. They communicate clearly, manage their time effectively, and demonstrate initiative in prioritising multiple tasks within tight deadlines. Self motivated and dependable, they bring a strong work ethic and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. They excel at supporting end to end project processes, preparing high quality documentation, and contributing to governance and reporting requirements. The ideal candidate works collaboratively within the Senior Officer Review team, actively supporting colleagues to keep activities on track and ensure the timely delivery of outcomes. They are comfortable managing competing priorities, including high-volume correspondence and ad hoc tasks requiring rapid turnaround. With strong stakeholder engagement skills and attention to detail, they contribute to accurate, defensible outputs for the O6 Position Sustainability Review (PSR) and the Biennial Review of Star Ranks (BRSR).
The role also requires regular engagement with the Senior Leadership Group (SLG) and Senior Officers, often at short notice. The ideal candidate is adaptable and able to adjust their workflow to ensure timely support to senior leaders when operational tempo increases. They demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, enabling effective engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making and deliver high quality outcomes.
