Job brief
In this full-time role (38-hours per week) as a Painter and Decorator, you will be responsible for leading painting projects from preparation to completion, ensuring high-quality finishes and adherence to safety and efficiency standards. This role involves working independently and collaboratively to manage painting tasks, including surface preparation, priming, and application of coatings. The Senior Painter also provides mentorship to junior painters and assists in maintaining tools, equipment, and job site cleanliness.
Responsibilities
* Execute a variety of painting projects, including residential and commercial interiors and exteriors.
* Lead and supervise a team of painters on-site to ensure quality and efficiency.
* Setting up scaffolding and ladders and placing drop cloths to shield surrounding areas from paint splashes.
* Applying paint, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray guns; and ensuring work is completed to a high standard.
* Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets specifications and maintaining high standards of quality throughout the project.
* Conduct site assessments and prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, priming, filling cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers.
* Mixing and preparing paints to achieve the desired colours by combining specific proportions of pigment, oil, and appropriate thinning and drying agents.
* Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.
* Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide exceptional customer service.
* Mentor and train junior painters, sharing expertise and best practices.
* Keep track of materials and supplies, reporting any inventory needs.
* Cleaning sites on completion, maintaining painting equipment, and ensuring tools are in good working order.
* Discussing project details with clients, addressing concerns, and providing updates on progress.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
* At least a Certificate III, or AQF Certificate IV in Painting and Decorating, a completed apprenticeship or an equivalent industry qualification.
* A minimum of 3 years of full-time experience as a painter, with a focus on residential and commercial projects.
* Strong knowledge of various painting materials, methods, and safety practices.
* Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
* Excellent time management skills and reliability.
Pay: $76,000 – $78,000 per annum salary plus superannuation
