City Communications / City Communications / Strategic Development & Engagement

Full Time / Permanent

$129,721.00 per annum plus superannuation

Caring for our city, creating a future for all

Our people are passionate about their communities and connected to their teams. They're motivated by our genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our clear, compelling plan for our global city: Sustainable Sydney 2030 – 2050 Continuing the Vision.

Be part of a purpose‐led organisation with care at its core. You'll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.

About The Role

Seeking a highly skilled specialist‐level content creator to join our City communications team. This is not an entry level role, and you'll be expected to lead content projects end‐to‐end, work independently, and produce broadcast‐quality photography, video, and written content that serves a large and diverse audience.

If you have deep technical skills in video production and photography, a strong editorial eye, genuine strategic instincts, and you stay ahead of a fast‐changing content landscape – thriving where platform shifts, new formats and emerging tools are part of the job we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do
* Directing and editing high‐quality video content for the City's website, social channels, and media outlets
* Photographing community events, portraits, and documentary moments that reflect life in our city
* Shooting and editing fast‐turnaround content for social media platforms
* Interviewing community members and grant recipients, then writing compelling human‐interest stories across a range of formats and channels
* Developing ideas for engaging, platform‐native content across the City's social media channels
* Managing content from brief through to publish across multiple concurrent projects
* Collaborating with stakeholders across Council to understand briefs, manage expectations, and deliver on time
* You'll create content across a broad range of subject matter, from local parks and core council services to major events and the City's strategic vision.
You Bring Who we're looking for
* Confidence and composure in the field; you can approach community members, manage stakeholder expectations, and keep projects moving independently
* Strong corporate judgement with a strong sense of what makes content work for a public audience and good instincts for risk vs reward
* The ability to juggle multiple content projects at once
* A collaborative approach and the ability to take direction from a brief, while bringing creativity
* Comfort working within structured approval processes typical of a government communications environment
* The resilience to put ideas forward knowing not all of them will land, take feedback in your stride, and adapt creative work to fit governance, brand or political realities – without losing your enthusiasm or creative drive.
Essential Requirements
* Professional experience in digital content creation, ideally within a large or complex organisation
* End‐to‐end video production expertise: ideation, scripting, directing, filming, editing, and publishing. Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro (or equivalent professional editing software) is required.
* Strong photography skills across event, portrait, and documentary styles
* Proven social media management experience, including platform strategy, content creation, scheduling, and community engagement across multiple channels
* Hands‐on experience with CMS platforms including managing publishing workflows
* Working knowledge of analytics tools such as GA4, with the ability to translate data into content decisions and report to stakeholders
* Experience contributing to or managing paid social or digital advertising campaigns
* Relevant qualifications in communications, journalism, digital media, photography, or a related field or equivalent demonstrated experience.
* Full, ongoing Australian working rights (sponsorship is not available for this role).
Desirable
* Experience in a government, public sector, or similarly regulated communications environment.
