About the Role
As a Senior Cyber Security Analyst you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding critical systems across the state.
Joining the Operational Advisory Team, you'll lead expert analysis and deliver timely intelligence on emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities, supporting whole-of-government responses to security risks.
This role is central to enhancing NSW cyber resilience and shaping strategic defence against evolving digital threats.
Key Accountabilities
Monitor, identify, assess and alert agencies and executives to cyber security issues, threats and vulnerabilities including breaches and potential intrusion incidents to ensure the security of NSW Government information systems.
Work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to monitor, detect, report and share cyber vulnerabilities, incidents, threats and trends to support informed decision-making and minimise potential cyber security risk.
Analyse and assess cyber threats to government services, assets and information to determine attribution, motivation and capability.
Mentor and guide staff in the timely delivery of actionable intelligence and reporting on emerging cyber threats, trends and issues affecting NSW Government to facilitate efficient team/unit operations and security in line with agency standards, policies and procedures.
Develop and lead projects with an aim to ensure continuous improvement of NSW Government's cyber security posture.
Identify stakeholder requirements, prioritise workload and manage team portfolios to meet agreed outcomes and timeframes to ensure prompt resolution of issues.
Keep up to date with the latest trends and issues in IT and cyber security risks and solutions to provide recommendations on innovations and best practices to improve cyber security posture across NSW Government.
About Cyber Security NSW Branch
The Cyber Security NSW function is located within Digital.nsw in the Department of Customer Service.
We are responsible for ensuring a cyber-safe NSW.
The protection of our systems and digital information is vital because of the many essential services NSW Government provides, including health, emergency services and transport.
We are working across NSW Government to:
Create a whole-of-government integrated approach to managing cyber risk and responding to cyber security threats.
Increase cyber skills and awareness.
Understand the risks from cyber threats to our digital information and systems.
Set cyber security standards.
Ensure we are prepared if a damaging cyber incident occurs.
About You
Proven ability to manage multiple cyber security initiatives and projects simultaneously to required standards and within tight timeframes.
Demonstrated expertise in monitoring and interpreting current and future cyber security environments including threats and vulnerabilities.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a track record of building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders while ensuring oversight and value to NSW Government agencies.
Solid understanding of NSW Government, Commonwealth and industry cyber security frameworks, and the ability to apply these standards to ensure compliance, manage risk, and support secure operational outcomes.
Tertiary qualifications or industry-recognised cyber security certifications are highly desirable.
Desirable skills include contract negotiation and regulatory compliance within a cyber security context.
Australian Citizen, including the ability to obtain and maintain a baseline or higher National Security Clearance and undergo a police check.
