About Mallee CMA
Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is a Victorian Government statutory authority.
Our role it is to facilitate integrated and ecologically sustainable management of natural, cultural, and productive landscapes.
The Mallee CMA region covers 3.9 million hectares – about one fifth of Victoria.
It is the largest catchment area in the state and runs along the Murray River from Nyah to the South Australian border, and south through vast dryland cropping areas and public reserves.
About the opportunity
Mallee CMA is seeking an experienced Engineer (Environmental Assets) to join our Operations and Community team.
This permanent role offers the chance to lead the planning, construction, commissioning, and ongoing management of critical environmental water infrastructure across the Mallee region.
You will play a key role in delivering major projects such as the Victorian Murray Floodplain Restoration Project and Restoring Flows to the Mallee Floodplain Program, overseeing more than 35 new structures across 19 sites.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to projects that enhance floodplain ecology, improve environmental watering outcomes, and strengthen community connections to resilient landscapes.
This is a full-time position, with a total remuneration package of $140,000 - $150,000 based on experience.
About you
We are looking for a motivated and technically skilled professional who is passionate about sustainable water management and environmental infrastructure.
You will hold tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering (or a related discipline) and have at least five years' experience in civil land development or infrastructure projects.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
Hydrology and hydraulic modelling expertise: Strong experience applying civil engineering principles and using tools such as TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, RORB, and ArcGIS to analyse floodplain flows and drainage systems.
Design and construction experience: Proven ability to design and deliver earthen levees, regulators, spillways, and erosion control measures, with a practical understanding of geotechnical considerations and locally available materials.
Stakeholder and community engagement skills: Ability to collaborate with Traditional Owners, local communities, and partner agencies to ensure environmental values are protected and stakeholders are informed throughout project delivery.
Project and risk management capability: Demonstrated success in managing engineering projects from investigation through to construction, including contract oversight, financial management, and robust risk management processes.
Commitment to safety and compliance: A thorough understanding of WHS regulations and asset management frameworks, with experience implementing systems that mitigate risks in water environments and ensure compliance with legislation and Australian Standards.
