Stawell Gold Mines (SGM) is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Apprentice Fitter & Turner. This role is ideal for someone looking to begin their career in the mechanical trade within the mining industry. Adult Apprentice applications are welcome. This residential position will be permanent full-time engagement.
The Role
Reporting to the Surface Maintenance Supervisor, you will:
- Abide by all SGM Health, Safety & Environment policies and procedures.
- Undertake routine maintenance on the mine's fixed plant as directed.
- Learn to service and troubleshoot equipment such as crushers, ball mills, conveyors, pumps, and screens.
- Report any faults identified during inspections and maintenance activities.
- Carry out tasks safely and in compliance with site standards and legislation.
- Assist the department in meeting operational KPI's.
- Attend and complete all trade school requirements as part of your apprenticeship.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Minimum Year 10 completion at secondary school.
- First Aid Level 2 qualification (desirable).
- Current Victorian manual driver's licence (desirable).
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability to follow instructions safely and accurately.
- Robust teamwork skills with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Analytical and problem-solving ability.
- A genuine interest in working with fixed mechanical equipment as a Fitter, Turner, and Machinist.
- Experience in a workshop environment (advantageous).
