PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The Domain Coach drives customer-centric value optimization within the company by tailoring lean-agile principles, facilitating effective communication with governance bodies, and leading Agile transformation. The role involves fostering distributed decision-making, coaching and empowering the Domain Leadership Team, and promoting an Agile mindset for innovation and responsiveness. The role aims to facilitate Agile adoption, improve stakeholder communication, and continuously enhance processes. It entails collaborating with Product Line Owners and Release Train Engineers, utilizing Agile metrics for data-driven decisions, addressing conflicts, and driving Lean Portfolio Management. The role requires expertise in Scaled Agile (SAFe), coaching, stakeholder management, leadership, communication, problem-solving, change management, collaboration, and continuous learning, all geared toward optimizing value delivery within the Domain context. KEY COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Significant practical experience with Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) within SAFe. This includes Strategy and Investment Funding, Vision and Value concepts, Domain Road-mapping, Domain Health metrics, Domain Operations, Broader Lean Governance across the organisation, and Lean Domain Governance. Strong understanding of other SAFe Portfolio Configuration elements such as Organisational Agility, Agile Product Delivery, Team and Technical Agility, Lean-Agile Leadership, and Continuous Learning Culture A detailed understanding of the Purpose of the Domain Leadership team Having a Supportive Leader mindset - sharing decision rights, putting the needs of people first and helping people develop and perform as highly as possible. Brings a continuous improvement mindset to Leadership discussions. Ability to influence and manage stakeholders, including the Executive, on the principles of Scaled Agile and its components, and how that influences the behaviours and ways of working within a Domain context. Coaching Skills: Strong coaching and facilitation abilities, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to ask powerful questions. Leadership: Ability to lead without direct authority, guiding teams and individuals toward self-organization and autonomy. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively to various audiences. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues, design solutions, and promote continuous improvement. Change Management: Experience in driving organizational change and fostering an Agile mindset at all levels of the organization. Collaboration: Skill in working collaboratively with diverse teams, stakeholders, and leaders to achieve common goals. Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with software development practices and tools, as well as the ability to adapt Agile principles to different industries. Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated on Agile trends, practices, and emerging methodologies. Agile Expertise: In-depth understanding of Agile principles, methodologies, and practices, with relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Scrum Master, Certified Agile Coach). QUALIFICATIONS Desirable certified SAFe Practice Consultant (SPC) Certification. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Drive the articulation (and continual optimization) of Customer Centric Value. Right size (tailor) Lean-agile principles and metrics into the Domain context. Ensure an effective and transparent connection between the Domain and the wider company governance bodies, processes, and agile events. Negotiate changes and/or exceptions to the wider governance process(es) with the wider organisation's Governance authorities (when appropriate) Foster distributed decision making, empowerment, collaboration, and coordination across the Domain. Provide coaching, feedback, and recommendations to the Domain Leadership Group, as individuals and to uplift the performance of the Domain and its individual leaders. Agile Transformation: Act as a change agent by promoting an Agile mindset, influencing cultural change, and challenging the status quo to promote innovation and responsiveness. Lead and facilitate the adoption of Agile principles, practices, and frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) within teams and across the organization. Assisting the Leadership team build awareness across the organisation's Lean ways of working (Lean Portfolio Management). Stakeholder Communication and Team Facilitation: Guide and coach cross-functional teams in Agile practices, events, and roles. Facilitate effective meetings, including iteration planning, daily stand-ups, iteration reviews, and retrospectives. Facilitate communication between teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment of goals, expectations, and priorities. Continuous Improvement: Facilitate continuous improvement aligned with the company's ways of working principles within the Domain. Identify areas for improvement within teams and processes. Create mechanisms for frequent feedback loops, encouraging teams to reflect on their processes and outcomes for iterative improvement Collaborate with teams to implement changes that enhance efficiency, transparency, and quality. Works with Product Line Owners and Release Train Engineers (RTEs) to: Ensure Agile Release Train (ARTs) continue to work with a Lean Mindset where they are empowered to make decisions to optimise the flow of value in the local context. Ensure Agile Release Train (ART) Team members have access to the necessary Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) knowledge and Training to be effective in their roles. The Domain Coach provides ongoing support and guidance on an individual leadership and whole of team basis as required, to operate "one step removed" from the day-to-day activities of the leadership group. Ensure the Domain operate in line with agreed standards and to work with the Leaders to identify improvements and efficiencies. Provide feedback to the Value Realization Office (VRO) Chapter or Lean Agile Centre of Excellence (LACE) on potential improvements to existing practices (Lean Portfolio Management). Metrics and Data Analysis: Utilize Agile metrics and data analysis to track team performance, identify bottlenecks, and drive data-driven decision-making. Conflict Resolution: Help teams address conflicts and challenges, fostering a culture of collaboration, open communication, and continuous improvement.
