The School of Psychology at UNSW is the leading Psychology school in Australia. It is located in the Faculty of Science and is recognised nationally and internationally for its excellence in research and teaching. It offers world class undergraduate psychology degrees, as well as postgraduate professional Masters training in Clinical and Forensic Psychology, an online Graduate Diploma program, and a PhD research program with over 120 students. 40 academic staff conduct experimental research in many areas of Psychology, including behavioural and cognitive neuroscience, perception, learning, memory and cognition, as well as health, social, developmental, clinical and forensic psychology. UNSW Psychology is the only School in the southern hemisphere ranked in the top 30 by discipline in the THES, QS and ARWU rankings. The School has well equipped research and teaching facilities and attracts outstanding staff and students from Australia and overseas. UNSW is located 5 km from the centre of Sydney and is close to other research centres, teaching hospitals, transport, shopping, and beaches

They will coordinate the purchase of equipment and supplies, establish and refine research processes and systems, ensure compliance with legislation and ethical requirements, and promote best practice in health and safety and compliance risk management.

**About the role**
- **$112k - $126k** plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed term - 12 months
- Part - time (7 hours)

The role reports to the Head of the School of Psychology and has no direct reports.

**Specific responsibilities for this role include**:

- Develop and implement guidelines, processes and procedures that align and support the research activities of the School of Psychology.
- Consult, liaise and develop strong relationships with stakeholders to achieve research outcomes.
- Provide timely and effective technical services to enhance research outcomes within the designated area of responsibility as required; these would include but are not limited to: day-to-day operation and training of confocal, fluorescence, and brightfield microscopy, histological procedures (in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry, use of cryostats), and manual and robotic stereotaxic instruments.
- Lead the research support team with supervision of other research staff and students as required.
- Plan and manage the effective utilization of resources in alignment with overall strategy and objectives.
- Support researchers with protocols and training to meet ethical requirements and enable research publication and grant outcomes.
- Design, implement, and manage research databases and information systems and proactively analyse and report on research performance and other relevant metrics to recommend initiatives to improve research performance.
- Promote best practice workplace health and safety and compliance and risk management.
- Oversee and provide project management or project support, collaborate with researchers and other technical staff.
- Establish and refine processes, procedures, and systems for behavioural neuroscience research techniques to enhance research capacity and efficiency across laboratories.
- Represent research group at other UNSW work areas, advisory groups, meetings and other activities and lead/manage other Centre-wide research activities as required.

**About the successful applicant**
**(Selection Criteria)**

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Degree in Psychology with relevant graduate experience in the theories and principles relating to Behavioural Neuroscience.
- Extensive experience in managing a PC1 and PC2 laboratory spaces, including all aspects of health and safety responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience working in a multiuser facility.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and procurement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced. Proven ability to influence senior management and stakeholders as appropriate to ensure successful outcomes.
