About the Role
As the Indigenous Student Academic Success Coach, you will play a key role within the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC), delivering tailored academic support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. You will work closely with students to develop personalised academic success plans, build their academic capability, and support them to navigate university systems in a culturally safe and empowering way.
This role involves providing one-on-one coaching, coordinating academic support programs, and delivering workshops and resources that enhance student engagement and performance. You will monitor student progress, implement early intervention strategies, and provide targeted support to students requiring additional assistance.
Working collaboratively across the University, you will engage with academic staff, tutors, and student support services to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to student success. You will also contribute to program development, continuous improvement initiatives, and reporting activities that strengthen outcomes for Indigenous students.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will provide high-quality academic coaching and advice, supporting students to build confidence, capability and independence in their studies. You will develop and implement personalised academic support plans, monitor student progress, and intervene early where additional support is required.
You will design and deliver academic skills workshops, preparatory programs, and learning resources, while coordinating targeted support for students in low‐completion or high‐risk subjects. You will also mentor tutors and contribute to ensuring culturally safe, strengths‐based academic support is delivered across WIC programs.
Your work will include building strong relationships with students, providing culturally responsive case management, and referring students to specialist services where appropriate. You will play an important role in evaluating programme effectiveness and contributing to continuous improvement across the Centre.
About You
You bring experience in academic support, teaching, tutoring or coaching within a tertiary environment, along with a strong understanding of the skills required for success in higher education. You are confident working with students from diverse backgrounds and are committed to delivering culturally safe, strengths‐based support.
You demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students and stakeholders. You have sound judgement, take initiative, and are able to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and student service.
You will also bring demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, along with a genuine commitment to equity, inclusion and student success.
