Senior Bioinformatician Role

The role is available at our Cancer Genomics Translational Research Centre. We are looking for a highly skilled bioinformatician to develop and apply computational tools and techniques to analyse and interpret biological data.

This includes working with experimental biologists to design experiments, interpret results, and summarise findings in scientific reports, publications, and visualisations. The role is a collaborative opportunity that requires excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

* Conduct and report on defined academic and commercial translational research projects in collaboration with the Head of the Cancer Genomics TRC and other TRCs.
* Analyse large-scale genomic data, including whole genome sequencing, methylation-based data, and single-cell & spatial sequencing technologies, applying best-practice bioinformatics workflows and developing innovative methods.
* Provide training and support to other TRC staff when required.
* Collaborate with the business and contracts team to prepare quotes and maintain ongoing client relationships.

Requirements:

* Postgraduate degree (PhD, MSc or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Computational Biology.
* 2–5 years of relevant bioinformatics experience.
* Proficiency in analysing next-generation sequencing data (whole genome, targeted, RNA-seq, etc.).
* Strong knowledge of cancer genomics, translational cancer research and/or clinical informatics.
* Hands-on experience developing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines, workflow optimisation and data visualisation.
* Excellent Python or R programming skills; solid experience with Linux, shell scripting and HPC cluster environments (torque/slurm).
