A vacancy currently exists for a Food Safety and Quality Assessor at our Geelong site in Victoria.
As part of a team reporting to the Food Safety and Quality Manager, the position's main focus will be to ensure the implementation of effective and efficient quality assurance systems to allow the operation to meet or exceed the levels of food safety, quality, biosecurity and animal welfare standards required by our customers and legislation.
The purpose of the Food Safety and Quality Assessor function is to maintain trust and integrity in the products and processes by independently monitoring and verifying the quality system requirements in accordance with the documented system to ensure that safe, quality food is produced.
This position will be primarily scheduled 2am- 10am, there will be requirements to work some 10pm-6am shifts as requested or scheduled.
Some of the key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Assist the current team in pre-operational inspection and sign off of the facility prior to start of manufacture
* Complete microbiological sampling, swabbing other process monitoring functions.
* Complete product quality assessments and review of production records as part of daily monitoring and verification activities
* Conducting Food Safety and Quality / HACCP / GMP and Animal Welfare Assessment through monitoring and verification.
* Appropriately mitigate risk, action and escalate appropriately when anomalies identified.
* Daily reporting as required
* Be an active and pro-active member of the Food Safety and Quality team.
* Use risk-based decision making and analysis as required
* Reading and understanding Food Safety and Quality Systems including HACCP documentation
* Ensure a working knowledge and implementation of the Quality Management System on a day to day basis as it relates to the tasks.
* Follow up of internal non-compliance issues as required
* Facilitate, promote and utilize the sites Food Safety and Quality monitoring and management systems and registers.
* Assist with the development and implementation and review of Food Safety and Quality policies and procedures
* Promote lead and influence alongside the rest of the technical team a strong food safety culture onsite with full implementation of all corporate expectations and activities especially as it relates to "Food Safety Always".
* Ensure data is truthful, has integrity and is clear in its presentation as it relates all the above activities.
* Assist when required as an auditee for external audits.
* Conduct and contribute to internal quality systems audits as required
The successful candidate will ideally have:
* Absolute Trust, integrity and professionalism.
* Tertiary qualification in food science or relevant industry experience/qualification.
* Knowledge of HACCP, and Quality/Risk Management Programs
* Ability to understand, review and develop as required quality procedures, programs and product specifications.
* Ability to analyse and present data
* Experience in teaching concepts to others.
* Ability to get people onside and influence
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Well organized and able to work to agreed timelines with minimal supervision.
* Strong numeracy and literacy and oral skills
* Ability to understand risk as it applies not just to Technical but to wider business.
* Ability to work in a production environment
* Flexibility in work hours, demonstrated use of initiative and decision-making ability.
* Experience in the use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
* Ability to communicate across all levels of staff.
* Excellent numeracy, oral, written and interpersonal skills.
