About The Chance
NSW Health Pathology is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Microbiology team within the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Laboratory Services (CIDMLS). This is a permanent full-time position based at the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research (ICPMR), located on the Westmead Hospital campus. The role involves participation in a 24/7 rotating shift roster. The Westmead Hospital campus is a major health, education and research precinct undergoing transformation.

What Youin Be Doing
- Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) and technical tasks by applying established methods and procedures, including nucleic acid extraction, molecular biology assays and/or conventional microbiology methods such as culture and microscopy
- Undertake material preparation, housekeeping and maintenance of equipment in line with laboratory processes, procedures and protocols
- Participate in a 24/7 rotating roster and may rotate through various laboratories within the microbiology department
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or equivalent qualification with Microbiology subjects
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic clinical microbiology procedures: molecular and culture techniques
- Ability to work responsibly and efficiently, managing competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a team environment while delivering results autonomously
- Customer-focused with well-developed interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
- Initiative, problem solving and analytical skills; apply principles in a pathology laboratory and resolve issues
- Commitment to quality management and continuous quality improvement

- Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination: Category A position; comply with NSW Health policy PD2024_015 and provide evidence prior to appointment
- The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a functional assessment prior to appointment
- Working Rights: Australian citizenship or permanent residency required for permanent appointment
