The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking for Remote Area Management Team Members to help collect information for the 2026 Census in remote and regional areas of Australia.
Working closely with the Team Leader, you will support Census activities across remote communities, regional towns, farms, mining camps, roadhouses and national parks. The role involves talking with people in the community, helping them understand the Census, and assisting with the collection of Census forms. You will also support the Team Leader to recruit and train Community Field Officers who will work across different locations.
Responsibilities
* Engaging with community members to raise awareness about the Census
* Supporting the Team Leader with Census activities and tasks
* Assisting with recruitment and training of Community Field Officers
* Conducting interviews and delivering Census forms to homes and dwellings
* Using maps, mobile apps and electronic devices to organise work and report progress
* Checking completed forms with field staff to ensure quality and accuracy
* Managing Census forms, devices and information securely
* Returning completed Census forms to the ABS
This role involves travel within the region and may require overnight stays. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply.
